While the pub itself is relatively modern, it sits on the site of a Roman caldarium, or steam house. A small museum in the pub’s basement shows parts of the exposed Roman plunge pools and steam rooms, along with a number of artefacts.
The Roman Bath Folklore:
White spheres or orbs – believed to be ghosts in the form for balls of light – have been seen emerging from the walls. Splashing has also been heard, presumably from Roman ghosts enjoying the plunge pools.
